Getting hot in the North
When I left rainy Oslo, the weather forecast promised 25 C in Kirkenes. A prediction which i could not believe. Especially as my whole clothing set in my luggage was targeted on low temperature and rain
However, during the 2 hour flight, the view changed drastically.
At arrival, it felt more like arriving in Fuerteventura in stead of the Artic.
Luckily, my bike made it as well to Kirkenes. It took me half an hour to assemble my bike again at sunset. And to get rid of the cardboard. When i was ready, i was the only person at the airport. 30 min before sunset.
Choosing the direction at this stage of the trip is still relatively easy.
Still 23 c, cloud less sky, soft sea breeze, view on the fjord and an illuminated bike path into kirkenes. It all feels to good to be true. And too hot for my long trousers as well…
In the city center, I noticed a signpost with the distance to Oslo etc. As i made a joke about it this morning with my wife, i stopped to take a picture to send her. At the same moment at rendeer walked through the scene. And it took the direction to Alta on the roundabout.
True story, I am in the Artic.
This evening, I am staying in one of the three hotels in town. As i have to arrange stuff like food and a gas bottle here in the morning, before i really start with the journey.
Cooling down on the terrace in this relaxed and modern city, with an enjoyable summer vibes and the smell of the sea.
