Day 28: Trondheim to Lillehammer

170 km cycling + 1050 m climbing + 200 km train in 3 h

Wake up call at 5:45, to get ready to take the first Train to Oslo.

Due to a destroyed bridge the train will not go further than Dombås. Busses are available to bring the passengers to Lillehammer from there. However, bikes are not allowed. So my plan is to cycle the 170 km from dombås to Lillehammer in two days with a camping in between.

When i take my bike from the basement, i got a reminder from the hotel.

Nobody at the reception do early. I drop my key and smile because of the word ” ringeklokke” for bell.

Trondheim has much more color in the morning.

In the station only a handful of people are hanging around.

The conductor Warns me to put my bag in a small corner as he was expecting a lot of bikes. In the end i was the only one during the whole trip. I dombås he explained that it was yesterday super busy with bikes. But today appeared to be different.

Half way the trip, when we reached almost 1000 m altitude, i noticed an Elk mother with a child. The last animal on the Bingo card i received from my kids! Unfortunately i was to late take a picture. Below the result .

In dombås, all the people of two different trains are embarking in two buses. I am the only one who is by bike and start the trip alone.

The first 38 km are literally downhill, average speed 35 km/h. The sun shows up. And the wind is pushing my back. Everything is perfect for a long cycle trip.

When i reached half of the distance, i choose to add as much as kilometers as possible to create more time for train travelling tomorrow.

When i reach 100 km i decide to target a campsite on 130 km. But when i arrive, everything is closed and the website indicates that it is full. To the next one. Here the reception is destroyed by flooding water during the storm.

New plan, in the next village i eat a pizza and decide to go till the end. And i book a room in a budget hotel on the camping of Lillehammer. Still 20 km to go.

It is dark when i arrive and chill. Luckily the reception is still open. My bed is calling. Tomorrow will be again a long day which will start as early as today.
