Release the travelbugs
Geocaching is a proven method to persuade kids to walk with enthusiasm through picturesque city centers, flowery parks, long nature hikes and other places generally of low interest from children.
The idea of an hidden treasure in the foreseeable future keeps them going without any complaints.
Therefore, we use geocaches a lot to guide us to unusual places in cities of our interest. Or motivate us to stop on seemingly random place down the road during travelling. Very often with special moments as a result.
Sometimes we find as such travelbugs, items which are travelling the world via people who transport them from geocache to geocache. A kind of worldwide estafette game, without any boundaries or endpoint.
Two years ago we arranged two travelbugs for our family to start a kind of game. A travel game between a Dutch and a Belgian travelbug. However, for no special reason, the bugs remained in a drawer till this Norway trip.
With the bikepacking adventure in the planning, we thought it was a great idea to release the two travelbugs as well in Norway. And follow their journey together with the one I will make in the North of the country. And who knows, maybe they change my route as well and I can cross their paths again.
During our visit of the Vøringsfossen and the Haedangervidda National Park, we found a geocache on the top of the plateau. An ideal spot to start the race!
Curious where they will go and which one will make the most kilometers. Within 1 week we will have 3 travelbugs to monitor in Norway.
