Tour d’Europe

During the European Championship Football 2024, i will be travelling through Europe. Both for work as for  leisure. The first stop will be a rugby tournament in Epernay, France. Where my kids will play against teams from all across Europe. Before we left, we made a poule to predict the scores of the football Championship , as an ongoing battle within our family Although none of us actually like football.

Belgium – Quiévrain

We choose to cross the Belgian-France border via a small road instead of the highway. To have a coffee in cafe Paris, on the border and lunch in one of the many snackbars. The street is stuffed with casino:s. It is clear that something is allowed in Belgium which is not allowed in France. All cars in the street are French.

France – Epernay

Our camp site is at the river Marne in Epernay. It is a warm June evening. Which makes a walk at sunset very convenient.

France – Reims

On Sunday, the day after the rugby tournament. My wife and kids drop me at the TGV station of Champagne-Ardenne near Reims. Here my journey across Europe will continue, while my family is heading home in the Netherlands.

The train station has facility for people travelling by bike, like a bike storage space and a pump which i used to start the trip at the right pressure.

Another remarkable facility is a pizza automate. As it is the only option to get food on this isolated train station, i give it a shot. The result is surprisingly good!

First time that i take my bike on a TGV, wondering how it will go. The sign posting on the quai are good, much better than in Germany where i often have to run to the other side of the quai die to misinformation.

Once embarked, it is less clear where to put the bike. But with the help of some passengers i find the correct spot. Ready to fly through the meadows towards Nancy.

Switzerland – Sihlwaldt

All 4 transfers went well, and the train trip from Reims to Zürich wen smoothly.

When i arrive on Langau-Gattilon, the blue turned blue and the temperature is 22-25 c. 3 km gravel road brings me into the Woods to camping Sihlwaldt. Were I will stay the coming days.

Curious for the time in Switzerland !
