Day 6: crossing the hills

42 km and 532 m climbing

I could not sleep well past night, symptoms of illness kept me awake. Not a good condition for another 80 km. I decided to shortcut Farol do Cabo de São Vicente and head directly for the campsite. A 42 km through the hills and woods in this area. The whole trip turned out to be offroad. Charming, especially to enter and leave the small villages via seemingly secret backdoor gates. On the other hand very challenging. So a lot of walking and pushing the bike uphill.

In the end it kept me as well a whole day busy.

Bordeira

A tiny village in the hills where i stopped for lunchtime.

Salema

The destination of today is SALEMA ECO CAMP – SURF & NATURE, where people who arrive by bike get a 10% discount.

It is 2 hours before sunset, so finally time to have a dip into the ocean. It is as chilly as in the upper North of Norway.

My kids found a list with remarkable and adventurous Portugese food. They challenged me to eat at least one of the list.

I was looking for a type of barnacles which are very typical for Portugal. Unfortunately they were finished. So I tried those shelf fish. I hope they also score some points on the scale of strange food of my kids. They were more tasty then their looks suggest.

Still 110 km to go to the finish in Faro. Curious how far i will get tomorrow.
