Day 11: Oksfjord to Olderdalen
77 km and 640 m climbing
Today it is the start of a new sunny period. And little to no wind. Ideal cycling weather, it boosts my mood and i really enjoy the whole trip.
The Atlantic coastroute and eurovelo 1 are both very well signposted. Not that there are many options to get of the track.
Halfway, the skyline got filled with sharp mountains covered with snow. In contrast with the blue sky a superb view which remain the rest of the day.
Olderdalen has a ferry connection to a shortcut towards Tromso, which is part of the cycling route. And the only supermarket in an area of 60 km. Enough reason to plan my last night before heading for Tromso.
However, I am a bit puzzled when i try to find the camp site as mentioned in multiple apps. It appeared the be a small grass field between an old petrol station and the local supermarket. Actually a place with a few basic cabins. The owner allows me to put my tent on the field. When i ask for the payment, he responses:”So let’s do some business, big business!” And he charges me 50 NOK. An all time record so far in Norway.
As i am sleeping close to the wall of the supermarket, i can use it’s public wifi account.
There is one restaurant as well, a Thai. From the outside it looks outdated like everything in this place. Inside it is clean, tidy and organized. In an open kitchen the affordable food is prepared by an elderly Thai woman. It is simply delicious.
While enjoying the warmth of the setting sun, i read and write this time in open air.
And i dream about what i can and will do when I reach the second milestone location of my trip: Tromso!
