Day 10: from Bognelv to Oksfjord
65 km and 1000 m climbing
As the living room of the camping house was so cosy, i went to bed at 23 o’clock. The view was still charming. Some hours later, at 5 o’clock I captured the morning vibe of my camping spot.
Tromso is about 210 km from here, and the last 70 km there are no campings. So i decided to split the trip in 3 days of approximately 70 km. With the idea to slow down a bit, and recover a bit from the race in Finmark.
So far the plan.
A new audiobook will be the voice-over of today, ‘First Person Singular’ written by Haruki Murakami. I have read virtually all his books. And same as all the others, this book set my imagination at work and a movie is formed in my mind while climbing the hills of the day.
In the supermarket I am in the same queue with a elderly lady wearing traditional Sami clothes. The red traditional outfit is a contrast with the modern supermarket. However, she pays with a bank card just like me and leaves the area in a white mini van.
During my lunch pic nic I have a call with my wife. As she is telling about the dynamics of having lunch with our two energetic boys of 8 and 10., I am watching to the most static view I know: a Fjord. Monolitic rocks, mirror-like water, clouds laying on the top of the mountains. No movement at my lunch table. Only the yell of a sea bird.
The morning started with a steep pass from one fjord to the other. And somewhere I thought this was the only one of the day. However, in the last 20 km i got surprised with another climb to an altitude of 400 m. Where the wind was howling. The view was impressive, but my legs are saturated with lactic acid.
And as such I arrive today at the same time as always although i only did 65 km today.
Oksfjord Family Camping
There is only one camping spot for tents, and I have the honor to take it for the night. It looks like i am the only resident. The cabins seems to be empty
The camping owner, looks at me when I arrive while nodding. I admit, i am crazy. The he tells me I can use the fire-house to sit and to make fire. Which is an excellent idea, as i bought a piece of salmon early that day. I decide immediately that it is a good moment for grilled salmon today. I got a bag full of wood as well to keep me warm the rest of the evening. Nice people, the Norwegians.
