Thinking about the box
Within a few days I will fly from Oslo to Kirkenes. With my bike as an oversized part of my luggage. Every airline requests a proper packed bike to transport it with the other luggage in the airplane. Which is a practical challenge in itself. Especially as we are in the middle of a camping trip in Norway.
Before our trip, we watched YouTube movies about packing bikes for air transport. And checked forums with tips and tricks about finding a proper box locally. Most tips refer to local bike or sport shops as a potential source of bike boxes. So we felt comfortable to find one in Norway shortly before the flight.
However, 4 days before departure, we called all bike and sport shops in the wider area and along our route to Oslo. Learning that it is a normal question in Norway, although virtually all shops were out of boxes.
Luckily, one shop in Voss was planning to unpack an electric bike today and were willing to save the box from the trash bin for us! So we made a detour via Voss to visit Sport 1 shop in the local shopping center.
The box was for sure big enough for my bike.
However, it was to big for our van to squeeze it in.
After removal of the many staples and some origami tricks, the cardboard structure finally fitted in the car. We bought a roll of duck tape for the future reconstruction of the initial shape. And hope for dry weather the coming days.
Curious for the assembly chapter at the airport of Oslo. To be continued.
